Smoothness of Masks vs Selections

In this lesson, I show you how Channels and Masks have the potential to deliver smoother results than Selections. That's because selections are limited to containing only 256 shades of gray (technically known as 8-bits), while channels and masks can contain tens of thousands of shades of gray (16-bit) as long as the document you're working with is in 16-bit mode. This distinction is mainly important when you are creating a mask that needs to have a gradual transition that spans a wide area.Note: There are no downloadable practice images for this lesson.
