Nikon has started to encrypt the white balance setting attached to raw files taken on the new D2X and D2HS digital cameras. This is a huge step backward in the evolution of the digital camera as it make it more difficult for non Nikon software to read the white balance information. This action pushes Nikon further away from adopting Adobe’s DNG format. If camera manufacturers would listen to their users, then they’d learn that most photographers want Nikon and Canon cameras to support the DNG format natively.
