Thought you might enjoy another one of my light painted shots where the only light source used was a flashlight.
If you're viewing this post directly in your wed browser, you might want to look into an RSS reader. If you get one of those, then posts like this one will show up just like e-mail… no need to check the site directly just to find out I didn't post on that day. On the Mac, I use a program called NetNewsWire. I know there are also windows equivalents. To find such programs, do a search on www.versiontracker.com
Very cool shot! The seminar was amazing yesterday. It was very cool to get a peek into that creative brain of yours! Thanks!
I want 2 link exchange whit Ur site 🙂
I was at your Houston seminar and I have to say it was absolutely amazing. I admire you for your skills, but also for your go-out-and-get-what-you-want-out-of-life attitude! If you ever decide you need an assistant to keep you organized in all your travels – let me know!!
Hey Just saw yer new book out there Ben…looks great..congrats.
Are you going to make an announcement about it here?
FYI, I can’t get your rss feed to work…

Where is ben? The world is flat and he drove his bus off it. Hopefully we can pull him back up. Long time no post.
I’m with Shawn. Where is Ben? No posts in a long time and my pre-order of HDR and Beyond was canceled by Amazon. It looks like the book equivalent of vaporware.
I’m bummed. I was really looking forward to reading it.
You don’t know me, I know you. I was one of several hundred lost souls
at the Houston talk you gave a few weeks back.
Best talk I’ve ever heard on Photoshop, but more importantly on
photography in general. So often the photoshop aspect is all that is on
show. I found your approach a real eyeopener.
I studied photography and graphic design back in 1978, and have worked
as an art director/copywriter ever since. I took the plunge a few years
back to change to digital with a Canon 5D. I thought I was doing ok
until I attended your course and realized I was treating it as I would a
film camera. You helped me to see the light…literally!
Thanks to you and HDR I have a whole greater interest in what I do, and
how I approach it. I even went out and bought two 15,000,000 candle
power flash lights on your recommendation.
I’m writing to tell you an interesting story. I notice your painting
with light efforts. I discovered this effect a year ago in a restaurant
in San Antonio, Texas. The restaurant was dark and I was unable to read
the menu so the waiter gave me a thumb size LED light. I noticed is was
very much a daylight light range. I took a few long exposure pics with a
small Lumix camera I had in my pocket and painted the light in with the
flash light. The effects were stunning and very different from any flash
I could use.
Later during the meal I got to thinking back to a photographer I worked
with in England about 20 years ago. He was showing off this new system
he had just purchased from the States. It cost tens of thousands of
dollars, featured a controllable light source and a fiber optic light
gun. He would take a normal exposure, then black out the studio, and
paint in the shadows with the light gun. It would take him all day to do
one photo.
And here I was doing the self same thing with a two-bit free flash light
the size of a quarter.
Anyway, your shots have inspired me to try more. I’ve just purchased
your HDR DVD, so you can put some more gas in the tank, and I hope you
get your vintage bus. What a great way to travel.
Thanks for steering me off the ‘film’ road and pushing me down the road
less traveled in digital. I’m loving the journey, and the scenery isn’t
bad too.
Cheers for now, Simon Ball, Houston, Texas
WHAT IS THAT SUPPOSED TO BE?????
