Today, I drove from Albuquerque to Tucumcari, New Mexico. Tucumcari is the place that got me interested in following Route 66 in the first place. I had driven through this town on a whim when driving across the country many months ago and ended up with some great shots (like the interior of a gas station that many people say looks like a drawing).
The images above were shot today in Cuervo, New Mexico where there are about a dozen abandoned buildings that make up a virtual ghost town. It felt weird shooting while I could see and hear the traffic on the interstate go by… people were so close, yet might as well been a million miles away. Both of these images have been heavily processed to see how far I could push them to produce an interesting result.
Hi Ben I have been following you for awhile and like what you are doing and hope sometime you might have a a DVD on some of the production that you do. Also if you are thinking of doing another road there is Route 95 the longest north south highway in North America running from Weed Calif to the Alaska Highway also part of 95. I’ve been on some of it but sometime would like to do the whole thing.Keep the photos coming. thanks Bob PS I really like the color of your photos
Ben,
I love the processing on this image, sort of a light painting feel. Can you explain the steps to create this effect?
Thanks and have a Dead Guy for Me!
Todd
I haven’t had time to fully document the technique… It’s a three shot bracket of exposures processed with both Photoshop and photomatix pro.
For those of you not in the know… Dead guy is a beer… If ya don’t know that, then Todd’s comment sounds rather odd.

Sorry about that… It does sound a little bit morbid out of context ;o)
